Polypropylene

POLYPROPYLENE
Polypropylene is a lower cost option in the Polyolefin family of Corrosion Products. Excellent Chemical and Moisture resistance . Available in Homopolymer and Copolymer formulations. Polypropylene is a colorless, odorless thermosplastic polymer which is rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids. It is also exceptionally resistant to heat and can be used at temperatures of up to 300 degrees Farenheit.
Properties
Polypropylene has a high softening point and excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. They have a specific gravity of .90 to .91, making them among the lightest plastics available. They are resistant to acidic, alkaline and saline solutions even at high tempuratures. Absorbtion of mineral and vegetable oils is extremely low.
Applications
The wide range of properties opens to polypropylenes a wide range of applications. Examples are pipes, fittings, valves, packaging, films, heat-sterilizable bottles, cable insulation, battery boxes, refirgerator parts, toys, radio cabinets, spools and other parts for textile machinery, impellers and casings for pumps, steering wheels and sheets for thermosforming. Polypropylene is also used in food and medical industries as well as the orthopedic and prosthetic fields. Talc or calcium modified grades are used in microwavable food packaging applications.
